Half-Truths

Half-Truths- they sound so familiar...

Half-Truths- they sound so familiar we think they are probably in the Bible… when, in actuality, they are just made-up cliches…or Hallmark theology… or Facebook fodder… or the “nothing” we say when we don’t know what to say…

And we are talking about these because sometimes a half-truth is just as bad as no-truth…

A chair that is half a chair is not half as good as a chair (especially if the other half is a cactus!) it’s no good. Some of these phrases have done damage, caused pain or turned people from God.

With the book “Half-Truths” by Adam Hamilton we are going to start the conversation explore

“Everything happens for a reason.”

“God helps those who help themselves.”

“God won’t give you more than you can handle”

“God says it, I believe it, that settles it.”

“Love the sinner, hate the sin.”

I am hopeful that this will be a bit of an interactive experience, that I won’t just be me talking AT YOU-

BECAUSE THESE ARE CONVERSATIONS THAT you are GOING TO HAVE- out in the wild-

You are going to hear these- you are going to hear them from people you love, and those you don’t like, and you will likely have an opportunity to respond.
